Red Rhone blends are wines made in the style of the Southern Rhone Valley. For example, the region of Chateauneuf-du-Pape has thirteen authorized red grape varieties that can be used. Principal among those are Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault. All of these Rhone varieties are grown successfully in the Sierra Foothills. The wines in this category contain at least two Rhone varieties with no single variety making up more than 75% of the wine.
